If you accidentally dial 911 stay on the phone and tell them it was a mistake. It takes longer for dispatchers to redial, and wait until a ping comes from a cell phone tower- they might even contact your service provider to get your information. If you don’t answer the redial they might actually send a unit out, because there’s a 50/50 chance it’s a forced hang up (Victim forced to hang up by abuser).

It’s best to stay on the line. It’s easier for you, and the dispatcher.
